As the end of the year approaches quickly and with tax season around the corner, DEDUCTIONS may be on your mind and we are here to help.

Let’s start by breaking down Section 179 of the Internal Revenue Code. This code is an accelerated depreciation deduction provision that allows you to deduct all or part of the cost of certain property during the year you first use it, instead of depreciating it gradually over its useful lifetime. Basically, you get to write off the entire purchase this year!

To qualify for a Section 179 deduction, your property must be purchased, not leased, and you must have purchased it for business rather than personal use. Some examples of qualifying property include equipment and off-the-shelf computer software. This means you can purchase new route accounting software, handheld computers and any other equipment or modules you want and write it all off.

You claim the Section 179 deduction using Form 4562 and your ordinary income tax return (Form 1120 or 1120S for corporations, for example). Please remember that it is important that you consult with a qualified tax advisor before making any purchase that you intend to deduct.

You are running out of time to pull the trigger and get the software products that will help you run your business smarter if you need another deduction for this year. Would you like a little more information? Do you want to schedule a demo? Contact Jon at 209-632-1122 ext. 588.
