USB Credit Card Reader not working in Remote Desktop (Swipe) V8
Customers using Remote Desktop/Terminal Services are unable to use a credit card swipe machine.
Cause
Terminal Services: There is a bug in Microsoft Terminal Services (as of the time of this writing) that keeps the card from reading properly across the Remote Desktop. Here is the original write up: http://knowledgebase.hudsonltd.com/article.php?id=059
Resolution
You will need to make an adjustment in the “Remote Desktop” OPTIONS menu to the way it handled Keyboard inputs. You will need to follow these steps to do so:
- Open Remote Desktop Connection program on the machine that has the card swiper (do not connect to the server).
- Select the “Options” button.
- Then go to the “Local Resources” tab
- Find the “Keyboard” section. There is a drop down we need to change to: “On the Local Computer” or “On This Computer” (varies by Windows Version).
- Select the “Connect” option as normal to connect to the server.
NOTE: To use this feature, also make sure your credit card processor (authorize.net, merchant warrior, etc.) is setup for "Retail" or "Card Present" authorizations.
