Resource File is Not Valid when Logging into Route Manager V8

Overview

When logging into Route Manager, an error may appear indicating "The Resource file is not valid. Overwrite it with a new empty one?". This is referring to the FOXUSER environment variable settings.

Symptoms

Logging into Route Manager, an error may appear indicating "The Resource file is not valid. Overwrite it with a new empty one?"

Such As:

Cause

The "FOXUSER.DBF" and/or "FOXUSER.FPT" files are:

  1. Set to "Read Only"
  2. Not set with Full Permission for "Everyone"
  3. Corrupt

Resolution

First we need to make sure its simply not just marked as read only.

  1. Navigate to your RMA Folder
  2. Locate the FOXUSER.DBF and FOXUSER.FPT files
  3. Right Click on them and go to Properties
  4. Review the Attributes > Read-Only Option, if it IS checked, UN-CHECK it:
  5. Make sure and check both files, then try logging into Route Manager again. If it fails to correct the problem, proceed to the next step.

Next, we need to make sure permissions are set correctly on the two tables:

  1. Navigate to your RMA Folder
  2. Locate the FOXUSER.DBF and FOXUSER.FPT files
  3. Right Click on them and go to Properties
  4. Click to the Security Tab
  5. Make sure the name "Everyone" is under the "Group or User Names" section and select them. Which will display the permissions below, it should look like:
  6. If they do NOT have the Full Control permission option selected or if the "Everyone Group" is not listed, you will want to hit the Edit option and give "Everyone" Full Control.
  7. Make sure and check both files, then try logging into Route Manager again. If it fails to correct the problem, proceed to the next step.

If both the options above are corrected, and it still happens, the table may be corrupt. In this case:

  1. Navigate to your RMA Folder
  2. Locate the FOXUSER.DBF and FOXUSER.FPT files
  3. Rename these two files, so it creates new ones. We suggest adding the "DATE" to the filename such as:
    1. FOXUSER_10032017.FPT
    2. FOXUSER_10032017.FPT
