Remote Desktop - Setting Up Easy Print

There may be times when a customer is connecting to RMA through Remote Desktop Connection, and their printers do not show up in the connection. The printers will show up fine on their desktop, but they do not get redirected. A simple fix is to enable Remote Desktop Easy Print drivers.

Cause

The Remote Desktop Connection does not detect printers due to missing drivers.

Resolution

  1. Open "Run" on the Remote Desktop Connection
  2. Type in gpedit.msc
  3. Navigate to the Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Remote Desktop Services folder
  4. Navigate to Remote Desktop Session Host > Printer Redirection
  5. Find the option Use Remote Desktop Easy Print printer driver first, and double-click to edit the policy
  6. Select Enabled, and press Apply, then Okay
  7. Make sure that Do not allow client printer redirection is disabled
  8. Perform the same steps (3-6) under the User Configuration folder
  9. Open Command Prompt, and type in gpupdate
  10. Have the user log off the server and log back in, and check to see if the printers have been redirected
