HERE Maps Libraries WebControl with WebView2 V8

Introduction

Moving forward, instead of using Internet Explorer, we are using Microsoft Edge (chromium) to update Here Maps.

Cause

If  Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime has NOT been properly installed you will have issues with Mango Mapping.   If it has not been installed, this is an indication that the update was not run with Administrator privileges, or that the update did not properly complete. Your first step should be to rerun the update after gaining Administrator privileges, and this should resolve the issue.

Resolution

Moving forward, instead of using Internet Explorer, we are using Microsoft Edge (chromium) to update Here Maps.

In order to do so, we are installing Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime during update or install. Without this application, maps cannot be loaded. If you wanted to verify that this has been properly installed after installing/updating, you can do so by searching for it on the Add/Remove Programs screen for regular machines, or by checking the Programs and Features screen on a server. Either way, these are both found on the Control Panel. (see below)

Another way to check if this has been installed is to launch any mapping screen, and pressing the F12 key. Doing so will launch the Microsoft Edge DevTools window. Obviously, since the maps are working, it’s installed. But if you do encounter a user who’s maps will not load, pressing F12 will allow you to quickly determine if this is an install issue or something else.

It will most likely be a rare occurrence that someone is unable to load maps after updating to 7.5/8.0. But if you do encounter this issue, I would advise everyone to verify Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime has been properly installed. If it has not been installed, this is an indication that the update was not run with Administrator privileges, or that the update did not properly complete. Your first step should be to rerun the update after gaining Administrator privileges, and this should resolve the issue.
